The Embassy of Ireland is delighted to invite you to its inaugural Bloomsday Book Club, taking place at 7.30pm on Friday, 14 June 2019. As a good introduction to James Joyce, we have chosen Dubliners – a collection of short stories first published in 1914. Whether you are a Joycean Scholar or a first-time reader of his work, Dubliners should satisfy all appetites.

Background:

Literature is an integral part of people's lives in Ireland and we are deeply proud of this literary tradition. In honour of James Joyce, one of Ireland’s most famous literary giants, every June we celebrate Bloomsday both in Ireland and around the world. 16 June 1904 is the day depicted in James Joyce’s most famous novel Ulysses. The day is named after Leopold Bloom, the central character of the novel.
