On Sunday 8 September, we once again honour the passing of the legendary Alan Power, a great friend, colleague and club-mate of many in Singapore and beyond. Alan passed away while playing a mixed-teams GAA event in Singapore on 20 July 2008.

A proud Corkman (and never shy to say so…) who came to Singapore with Pfizer, Alan was an ever-present lethal full-forward on our GAA teams during his time here, and also co-founded the soccer side of the club, which has now grown to four teams. An all-round legend of a guy who remains sadly missed.

In Alan's memory, the Singapore Gaelic Lions, with the Gaelic Lions FC, Hibernians FC and Singapore Wombats, are hosting the 11th Alan Power Memorial Games at Dempsey.

The emphasis is very strictly on a fun club day out, with some sport thrown in. We mix up the clubs, teams, genders and rules, and the beers will be as ever colder than strictly necessary. The most serious parts of the day are the one-handed tug-of-war, the Poc Fada, the boat race, Kymbo’s jelly shots and Dom’s Dunking©. The Cubs are once again joining the fun this year, to show the rest of us how it’s done.

The soccer starts at 1030am (non-regulars very welcome too), with the Cubs taking to the field at 2pm (would be great to have adult players coming down to help out), and the mixed adults GAA folks to be down for 230pm latest please for a strict 3pm start. We’ll wrap up for 6pm latest, to leave enough time for important stuff like sitting on the grass knocking back a few cold Magners….

The soccer lads will get the comms from their side, the adult GAA ladies are along Parish Team lines and should be in the loop on WA (contact your captain otherwise), and the adult GAA lads can sign up via the app. Hurlers will get pinged by their side. All-comers welcome basically. See you all on Sunday the 8th !
